At 7 years of age Alexander got a teacher named Leonidas who was
a very harsh teacher. He
taught Alexander to eat a slender diet with lots of exercise.
Phillip saw that this kind of training was more for the
battlefield than for the throne, and so he began looking for a
good tutor. Once he saw Aristotle, he hired him when Alexander
was now at the age of 13. Aristotle was at 40 at the time and
was not the famous person he has
become today. Aristotle taught Alexander to get attached to
Greek literature which he carried throughout his life.
Alexander developed an enjoyment for the poet Pindar, but
especially liked the Iliad. In fact he liked it so much that
every night he slept with it under his pillow. Aristotle didn't
just give Alexander a love of literature but also made
Alexander's view of the world bigger and he influenced Alexander
with his curiosity. Aristotle taught Alexander for 3 years. |
